Developing Leader All Star Honoree Profile - Joe Jorgensen, VJS Construction Services
Name/Title/Company: Joe Jorgensen / Partner, Project Manager / VJS Construction Services
Briefly tell us what you do, and length of time in the CRE industry: I’m a project manager with VJS Construction, a family-owned firm specializing in commercial construction based in Pewaukee, WI. I’ve been working full-time in the commercial real estate and construction industry since 2017, but have been involved in the business in various capacities for most of my life. My role includes overseeing project delivery from preconstruction through closeout, with a focus on client relationships, budget management, and subcontractor coordination.
Number of Years in NAIOP Wisconsin?: 4 years.
What project or professional or personal accomplishment are you most proud of?: As project manager for the City of Waukesha Parade Memorial, I had the privilege of leading VJS Construction’s efforts to bring this meaningful project to life following the tragic 2021 Christmas Parade incident. VJS proudly donated all construction services to support the City of Waukesha and its vision for a lasting tribute. The project included sitework, hardscape, landscaping, and coordination of custom artistic elements—each designed to honor the victims and provide a space for reflection and healing. Collaborating closely with city officials, artists, and community members, this was one of the most humbling and proud moments of my career, both personally and professionally.
Where did you grow up, go to high school or college?: I grew up in Hartland, WI where I attended Arrowhead High School. Following high school, I attended Auburn University where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction, and minored in Business. My wife, Courtney, and I currently live in Brookfield with our two dogs, Rodger & Barkley.
Who introduced you to NAIOP Wisconsin and how has the DL All Star program contributed to your success in the industry as a young professional?: I was first introduced to NAIOP through a Amanda Busche, a colleague of mine at VJS Construction, who encouraged me to get involved early in my career. Joining the Developing Leaders All Star Program was a pivotal decision—it has significantly accelerated my professional growth and expanded my network in ways I couldn’t have imagined. The DL All Star Program has given me direct access to some of the most respected voices in commercial real estate, along with behind-the-scenes insights into major local developments. The mentorship, peer connections, and exposure to different sectors of the industry have helped me become a more well-rounded project manager and a more strategic thinker.
What advice would you give today, to you five years ago?: Be present, be proactive, and don’t be afraid to speak up. You’ll learn quickly that confidence is built through experience, but it starts by raising your hand, asking questions, and owning your seat at the table—even if you feel like the youngest one there. Also, trust that the relationships you build matter just as much as the work you deliver. The construction and real estate industry is built on trust, reputation, and follow-through—so treat every project, email, and meeting as a chance to reinforce that.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?: I see myself helping lead VJS Construction alongside my siblings, continuing to build on the legacy our family started. We’re committed to growing the business strategically—expanding into new markets, diversifying our project portfolio, and investing in the next generation of talent. I want to play a key role in shaping not only the projects we deliver, but also the culture and long-term direction of our company. It’s important to me that we stay grounded in our values while continuing to push the business forward—embracing innovation, strengthening the communities we serve, and helping shape the skyline with projects that leave a lasting legacy.
What is one thing you can't live without? My wife & my dogs.
Favorite brunch spot?: Love a breakfast sammy and a spicy bloody from Cafe Hollander.
